Brand Revealer #19: "Understanding what you stand for" with Marine Tanguy
New Q&A with CEO of MTArt Agency, Marine Tanguy + bright brands
👋 Hello Branding Revealers. How are you doing today?
After a much-needed break from both newsletters, I am happy to resume with new ideas, interviews, and topics to highlight. We are already in October, and I know most of you are settling into the rhythm of Q4. I hope this new set of interviews inspires and activates your next move.
A new book in the making and my first public speaking event
📚 Even if I was not showing up here, I have been working on my playbook for female founders. An unexpected book: it started as an icon set for female founders and now it’s a book. I will be sharing more about it soon.
🎤 Do you believe that saying "Yes" to life could change your business?
This summer, I was feeding myself with some good positive thinking and watched the movie Yes, Man with Jim Carrey. It reignited my joy to dare new things. Around that time frame, one of my mentees from ADPList invited me to join a panel to discuss branding and storytelling. Long story short, I said yes, and I don’t regret it. It was a great experience and I will do it again! I loved the energy and how, as a collective, we highlighted the playfulness of branding. I shared a little bit about it on LinkedIn. You can read it here.
My summer was calm yet it was already paving the way for Q4 and 2025. These few months remaining are precious for assessing what we are building as brand builders, but also seize the opportunity that we have to create our worlds!

🎯 Wise words from Brand Revealer: Marine Tanguy
I discovered the book The Visual Detox by Marine Tanguy through the Ilikenetworking community. The cover caught my attention, and I saved it for my next read. Interestingly, she appeared on my feed, and I made the connection. I loved her approach to addressing visual overload. Additionally, as a creative and content creator, I know we contribute to fueling the visual machinery. So, I wanted to invite her to share her strategic insights on this topic and learn more about her art agency.
☕ Grab some tea or coffee and let’s go!

Where are you located?
🇬🇧 London, United Kingdom.
What is your definition of Branding?
Branding is a narrative built between audiences and a business.
Marine
Branding is made of trial and error. The positioning takes effort, time and dedication. How can entrepreneurs recover from a branding that doesn't resonate yet with their audience?
It’s normal to keep evolving with it.
Marine
What are the repeated words you hear about your Brand and Branding from your audience, teams, and people who discover you? (3 to 5 keywords)
✦ Disruptive
✦ Innovative
✦ Inspiring
Marine
What is your best branding story from clients, yourself or an iconic brand?
The joy to see our logo and our projects as I walk around multiple cities.
Marine
Do you have any recommendations for mastering branding, such as books, podcasts, conferences, etc.?
Understanding deeply what you stand for, meaning your value system and why you want to build this company.
Marine
I love how disruptive the title of your book is. It challenges not only our habits but also, the abundance of stories in our era. How did you find this title and what emotions did you want to convey to your readers?
Thank you so much! We rarely think about our visual intake and the numbers are staggering: 10,000 images a day! I wanted to create a pause both with the title and the cover image.
Marine
You share hacks to reduce visual and information overload. How can artists stand out in this saturated environment while promoting ''mindfully'' their work?
Artists do not need to worry. Countless studies have shown that the more we are exposed to the arts, the higher our well-being. So, they should spray their art into all our everyday spaces—literally. Over the past 9 years, we have delivered 300 projects at MTArt Agency doing just that.
Marine
Your talent agency represents contemporary visual artists. You see and analyze numerous images, concepts, and the emotions they convey daily.
What kind of feeling do you look for in each piece you discover?
Strong concepts, stories that capture the times, incredible technique, and that je ne sais quoi of a personality filled with ambition, drive, and a strong vision—this makes for the ideal artist to work with. I still get goosebumps every time I see their works and projects daily.
Marine
We live in a visual world, where it takes less than 3 seconds to decode an image and decide if it’s worth our attention.
• How have you helped brands recognize visual overload and reduce saturation in their communication?
Visual pollution is everywhere, adding more noise to it won't get any message across. It's about relearning to communicate mindfully and treating people as humans, not mere data targets. When working with Apple TV, Hyundai and so many other global brands, we have shown the importance of a powerful visual storytelling over visual noise.
Marine
You bring art into various spaces, democratizing and expanding access to new artistic experiences. I love how this resonates with the concept of branding as an experience. How has this approach to branding shaped your vision and how far your artists' concepts can expand within different spaces?
I am not sure I would see it as branding. I think it is more about establishing a dialogue, creating visual conversations in all spaces to all audiences.
Marine
What is the wisest branding lesson you learned while building your agency within the art world?
I feel we have done everything differently to the art world at this stage and it seems to have worked!
Marine
Today, given your understanding of the power of images on our behaviours, focus, beliefs, and more what changes are you hoping to bring to the art world and more broadly to the digital world?
I want all of us to be visually literate, especially in an era filled with visual misinformation and manipulation. The book gives a simple method to train our eyes and decode imagery.

🤩 Bright, they are!
🔥 Chicken Shop Date (Observe and learn brand magnetism with flair. I discovered this show years ago but lost track of it. Ten years have passed, and it has matured like fine wine. The DNA and brand vibe are a masterclass, and their ability to stay true to their beginnings is truly inspiring!).
🔎 Do you need a visual detox? (We are bombarded with images—we are visual beings, after all. Now, the choice of what to focus on is largely in our hands. We can pivot instantly, but we need the willpower and tactics to go that extra mile.).
📹 Motion that sparks attention (Knotably is a motion studio that creates captivating visuals you can't ignore. Their storytelling skills are on another level!).
👨🏻💻 Have you been trained? (This tool allows you to search the data used for AI training and see if your work has been included. While it may not stop the wagon, at least you can verify its usage).
Pitch your climate or inclusive tech startup (Technological solutions built to address climate tech crisis and provide more equal access. Deadline: Oct. 14th).
🎈 Brand(ING) prompt / 026
How powerful is brand consistency in reducing visual overload?
I am a believer in identification rather than strict consistency—brand guidelines that allow for playfulness while still reinforcing the brand's identity. Now, striving for that identification to be clearer and less invading is an important question any brand builder should consider. Food for thought…
I leave you with the song selection by Marine.
Sending bright vibes ✨
