In the Q&As, brand heroes and heroines, but I like to call them "Brand Revealers" for this newsletter— will share their definition of branding, along with precious wisdom. We are heading towards a new dictionary of branding with the project!

Short Q&A - Brand Revealer #01
I asked a few questions to our first guests, Roger Starkweather & Steven Picanza, whom I discovered on Substack. I loved their straightforward and proactive mission to educate 1 million+ entrepreneurs, marketers, and business leaders on how to leverage their brands to win. As one of their readers, I knew they would be a great addition to the conversation on branding.

What is your definition of Branding?
A brand is someone's gut feeling about your offerings - the way they connect to you.
Roger
Branding is the long-term plan to outmaneuver your competition through radical differentiation.
Steven
Branding is made of trial and error. The positioning takes effort, time and dedication. How can entrepreneurs recover from a branding that doesn't resonate yet with their audience?
Take clients into a deep dive into "why" they do what they do.
Roger
Talk to your audience. Have a 1:1 dialogue with them because, in the end, it isn't what you say it is, it's what they say it is. And if we allow ourselves to listen more than we speak, we'll learn not to repeat the same mistakes twice.
Steven

What is your best branding story so far from clients, yourself or from an iconic brand you look up to?
Taking a client through the discovery/awareness process and creating a totally new vibe.
Roger
There are so many things to talk about, but ultimately, it's when a client says that working with us has been the smartest move we’ve made when it comes to investing in their marketing.
